Tamlane Historic Trail North Route Hike | Canguangliao Historic Trail + Diaoshan Historic Trail O-Shaped Vertical Hike

The Cangguangliao Historic Trail was once the busiest route on the northern route of the Tamlane Historic Trail. It served as a military camp, a postal route, a gold mining operation, and a dam. The lush green mountains and flowing streams, along with the poignant love story of the "Wuyuan Tomb" monument, create a hiking trail where nature and history intersect.

This route begins at the trailhead near the "Shumeiping Viewing Platform" at kilometer 19 on County Road 102. After entering the Caoshan War Preparation Road, it connects to the Cangguangliao Historic Trail, passing the Ganzaidian Ruins and the former dam site, before turning onto the Diaoshan Historic Trail. The trail takes an O-shaped path back to the starting point, entering and exiting via A. The total distance is approximately 10 kilometers.

The Canguangliao Historic Trail was once the "Canguangliao Postal Courier Trail" for postal traffic between Taipei and Yilan. It also served as the "Canguangliao Xuntang Historic Trail" for military purposes. The trail's high point offers views as far as Shuangxi, Ruifang, Houtong, and the coast of Keelung. An explanatory sign is located at the Ganzaidian Ruins. Quietly hidden among the shady trees are the abandoned dam and pumping station. Accompanied by the gurgling sound of the Mudan River, the history of the Tamlan Historic Trail flows through the site.

Diaoshan Historic Trail
Diaoshan Historic Trail originated from the discovery of gold placer during the Japanese colonial period. This led to the construction of a light vehicle road for transporting the mineral, as well as facilities such as a mining office and a medical station. It became a necessary route for the ancients to travel between Ruifang and Jiufen and Shuangxi and Mudan for trade and work. Following the decline of the mining industry, the trail became overgrown with weeds. After renovation and maintenance, it has become a popular hiking trail.
