Tour Overview

The three most important trails on the middle route of the Danlan Ancient Trail: Wushan Yueling Ancient Trail, Pingxi Ancient Trail, and Shikong Ancient Trail

The entire route is 12 kilometers long, with gurgling streams accompanying you from time to time. At the end, you can overlook the open scenery of Guishan Island!

This hike along the central route of the Danlan Historic Trail is a popular and refreshing route weaving through cedar forests and streams. It boasts a rich and tranquil ecology, with ferns and vines aplenty. Climbing to a higher point offers a bird's-eye view of Yilan's Guishan Island and coastline. Traces of settlement and life can be seen along the trail, and guided tours offer a deeper understanding of the memories of this route.

-Introduction to the Danlan Historic Trail-

The Danlan Historic Trail is broadly divided into three routes: the North, Middle, and South. The Middle Route, starting in Nuannuan and running through Shifen, Ganjiao, Taiping, and Waiao, Yilan, is a path pioneered by our ancestors for survival and mountain cultivation. It carries the memories of the common people, from pioneering to interethnic conflict and reconciliation. Along the way, you can see terraced fields and stone-built Tudigong temples, symbols of traditional beliefs.

- Scenic Spot Introduction -

▲ Wushan Yueling Historic Trail | Difficulty ★★ |
The Wushan Yueling Historic Trail is a 1.5-kilometer trail connecting Wantan to Pingxi Historic Trail. The first section is a gentle uphill climb, while the middle and later sections feature steep stone steps. Along the way, the plant life is rich and tranquil. 200 meters before the trail exit, the section crossing the stream is breathtakingly beautiful, with lush greenery overhead and clear streams flowing beneath, making it a perfect summer escape.

▲ Pingxi Historic Trail | Difficulty ★ |
The Pingxi Historic Trail, a timber transport trail used centuries ago, is flat and spacious, lined with lush cedar trees. The gurgling stream echoes along the path, and as you cross it, you can spot fish and shrimp swimming underwater. Walking along Pingxi is refreshing and pleasant, ending at a scenic rest area where you can admire the stunning seascape and the merging sky of Guishan Island.

▲ Shikong Historic Trail | Difficulty ★★ |
The Pingxi Historic Trail heads east into the Shikong Historic Trail section, marking the final section of the Danlan Historic Trail Middle Route. The trail, connecting the Shikong settlement to Waiao, Yilan, retains its pristine mountain forest appearance. Along the way, numerous ancient trail remains and occasional clear streams create captivating scenery.
