▲ Gyeongpodae
Gyeongpodae is Gangneung's most famous pavilion and designated Tangible Cultural Property No. 6 of Gangwon Province. Its roof features the "paljak" style, a common Korean house, with six rooms on the front and five on the sides, supported by a total of 32 pillars. Its tranquil setting creates the illusion of viewing an art exhibition in a natural art museum. It is said that Gyeongpodae was built in the 13th year of King Chungsuk of Goryeo by Anryeonsa Park Suk on the site of Inwolsa Temple, located behind the present-day Banghaejeong. The site was later relocated to its current location, but the exact circumstances remain unclear. Many famous works can be found on the Gyeongpodae, including "Gyeongpodae Poem" written by Joseon scholar Yulgok Yi I at the age of 10, a royal poem by Joseon King Sukjong, and "Beam-Raising Sacrifice" by Cho Hawang, then serving as Gangneung official during the Joseon era. The "Eight Views of Gyeongpo" and "Gyeongpo Moonsam" (Gyeongpo Wolsam) found here are renowned throughout the country for their captivating scenery.

Near Gyeongpodae are Gyeongpo Beach and Gyeongpo Lake. Every January 1st, crowds flock to Gyeongpo Beach to admire the first sunrise of the new year, making it essential to book accommodations in advance. Furthermore, Chodang-dong (Chodang-dong) near Gyeongpo Lake is a famous Gangneung delicacy and a must-try for any visitor to Gangneung.

Gangneung ARTE MUSEUM, the third permanent immersive media art museum opened by d'strict in December 2021 near Gyeongpo Lake in Gangneung, is located near Gangneung's Gyeongpo Lake. Gangneung is ranked first among the Eight Scenic Spots of Kanto Province. The museum, occupying 1,500 pyeong, showcases 12 diverse digital media artworks themed around valleys, reflecting the unique character of Gangwon-do and Gangneung as the heart of the Baekdudaegan. Each artwork, themed around Eternal Nature, offers not only a powerful visual experience but also evokes a sense of immersion through sensual music and fragrance.

In 1954, a temporary wooden structure was erected on the market site. In 1982, the Jungang Market complex was completed under the Jungang Market Modernization Project. The building consists of one basement floor and two above-ground floors (with a total floor area of 15,436 square meters), housing 449 shops. The basement floor houses a seafood stall and sashimi shops, while the first and second floors above ground house general wholesale and retail businesses (food and clothing stores). Jungang Market was later renamed Sokcho Tourist Fisheries Market.
