Tour Overview

The culinary capital of Gangwon Province, Sokcho Jungang Market's irresistible and delicious Gangwon-do delicacies, such as string cheese jellyfish and spicy fried chicken, will captivate your taste buds and challenge your stomach. At Jumunjin Beach, a popular spot for Korean drama fans, you can gaze upon the vast ocean and let all your worries drift away with the waves. Then, journey through the dense coniferous forest and experience the solemn and tranquil atmosphere of Woljeongsa Temple on Mount Odaesan.

A rich and diverse itinerary and a variety of experiences will ensure you a fulfilling and enjoyable two days. Get to know this vibrant part of Gangwon Province in depth.

Sokcho Jungang Market (Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market)
In 1954, a temporary wooden structure was built on the market site. In 1982, the Jungang Market complex was constructed as part of the Jungang Market Modernization Project. The building consists of one basement floor and two above-ground floors (with a total floor area of 15,436 square meters), housing 449 shops. The basement floor houses a seafood and sashimi shop, while the first and second floors above ground accommodate general wholesale and retail businesses (food and clothing stores). Jungang Market was later renamed Sokcho Tourist Fisheries Market.

※Ojukheon
Ojukheon, named after the dark bamboo trees surrounding the house, is the former residence of Joseon-era scholar Yulgok Yi I and his mother, Shin Saimdang. It is a representative historical site in Gangneung. Built in the early Joseon Dynasty, Ojukheon is the oldest wooden house in Korea. Due to its architectural significance, it was designated Treasure No. 165 in 1963. The Mongryongsi within Ojukheon is the birthplace of Yulgok Yi I. The entire complex encompasses Ojukheon, Munseongsa Temple, Sarangchae, Eojeogak, the Yulgok Memorial Hall, and the Gangneung City Museum. Munseongsa Temple is a shrine dedicated to Yulgok, Eojeogak serves as a collection of artifacts, housing his book "Jimeng Yoju" and the inkstone (dragon inkstone) he used as a child. The Yulgok Memorial Hall houses an exhibition hall showcasing Yulgok's writings, paintings by his mother Shin Saimdang, and paintings and writings by his family, including his sister Yi Maecang and his brother Oksan Yi U.

Woljeongsa Temple (월정사)
Woljeongsa Temple is located in a dense forest in the eastern valley of Mount Odaesan in Dongsan-ri, Jinbu-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do. With Dongdae Manwolsan Mountain in the background, the temple, nestled amidst the verdant coniferous forest, sits serenely where the essence of Manwolsan Mountain converges, exuding a tranquil beauty. The gurgling Geumganggyeon, with its clear stream and fish swimming freely, flows in front of the temple, a sight not to be missed.
