The most classic Taipei trip, recommended for first-time visitors to Taipei

The most classic Taipei itinerary, perfect for your first visit to Taipei

In just one day, explore Taipei's most iconic landmarks, including the Grand Hotel and the National Palace Museum, as well as the nostalgic Taipei Old Town districts of Dadaocheng and Dihua Street. Travel back in time and visit historically significant sites like the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Cheng'en Gate (North Gate), and Lungshan Temple. The itinerary thoughtfully includes stops at two major shopping districts: Ximending and Taipei 101, allowing you to explore Taipei while also enjoying some shopping. This enriching itinerary will allow you to uncover the mysteries of Taipei, both past and present, and experience a unique blend of Taipei's charm.

- Attraction Introduction -

▲The Grand Hotel
The historic Taipei Grand Hotel, a five-star hotel built in the 1950s to host foreign guests and state banquets, exudes a grand, classical atmosphere with its majestic red pillars and golden tiles, embodying the beauty of traditional art. It is a representative landmark of Taipei and holds immense historical significance.

▲National Palace Museum
The world-renowned National Palace Museum boasts one of the largest collections of Chinese artifacts in the world, housing nearly 700,000 ancient Chinese artifacts and artworks, spanning 8,000 years from the Neolithic Age to the present day and spanning multiple dynasties.

▲Dadaocheng
Named after its vast expanse of land for drying rice, Dadaocheng became Taipei's most prosperous commercial center following the opening of Tamsui Port in the late 18th century, serving as a hub for the tea and fabric trade. Today, despite its vicissitudes of history, Dadaocheng remains a hub for traditional Chinese medicine, local goods, and textiles. Its diverse collection of century-old buildings and emerging cultural and creative shops exudes a unique vitality through its blend of old and new.

▲Dihua Street
Centered by Dihua Street, traditional dry goods stores and Chinese medicine shops line the streets. The unique style of the old houses here has attracted numerous cafes and small art exhibitions. This vibrant blend of innovation and nostalgia has made this area a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists visiting Taipei and exploring emerging cultural and creative industries.

▲Cheng'en Gate
The North Gate, also known as Cheng'en Gate, faces north, meaning "receiving Heaven's Grace." It is the only remaining authentic Minnan-style city gate in Taipei. Its strategic location makes it a modern landmark in the old Taipei City West District. During the Qing Dynasty, it served as the central gateway from the inner city to Dadaocheng.

▲Ximending
At noon, we arrived at the bustling Ximending shopping district. The densely packed and diverse shops offer everything from satisfying your hunger to shopping for souvenirs, making it a popular destination for international tourists. Street performers occasionally perform, so if you happen to see one, stop and enjoy the vibrant energy of Taipei's downtown.

▲Longshan Temple
Longshan Temple is a center of worship, activities, gatherings, and command for local residents. It is said to be highly effective and always grants prayers. Over the past 200 years, Longshan Temple has undergone numerous renovations, and its structure is a perfect "U" (Chinese character for "回") shape, a highly distinguished layout in traditional temple architecture. In the square, notice the unevenly cut stone flooring, reflecting its ancient history.

▲Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall
The Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall was built to commemorate Chiang Kai-shek, the first president of the Republic of China. Its exterior features white walls and a royal blue glazed roof. The grounds, encompassing an archway, museum, square, and garden, are magnificent and imposing, leaving a lasting impression on visitors. Witness the Changing of the Guard ceremony, where the uniform movements and solemn atmosphere are awe-inspiring.

Taipei 101

Taipei's most iconic landmark, Taipei 101, stands approximately 508 meters tall and was once the tallest building in the world. Its unique architectural style, especially its dazzling brilliance at night, makes it a must-see for any visitor to Taipei. If time permits, visitors can visit the 89th-floor observation deck at their own expense to enjoy the breathtaking nightscape of Taipei from above, offering breathtaking panoramic views.
