Tour Overview

Wandering in Japan's Ancient Capitals - Time Stands Still, Back in Time

Accompanied by Chinese-speaking onboard service personnel throughout the trip

Departs every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with a group size of 10 people

Get to Gifu's popular attractions in one day!

Departs from Nagoya and Kanayama Stations, and you can get on and off at different points. Luggage can be carried on board.

The Ena Gorge, Magome & Tsumago Day Trip departs from two points: Nagoya and Kanayama Station. Torokei-san Eiho-ji Temple sits tranquilly beside the Toki River, seemingly washed by its clear waters. From the Ena Gorge Observatory, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of its grotesque peaks and rocks. Magome-juku, a historic post town, retains the charm of Japan's Edo period, making its exploration a truly memorable experience. Tsumago-juku, like a village frozen in time, is a precious living historical treasure well worth a visit.

- About the Attraction | Ena Gorge, Magome & Tsumago Day Trip -

▲ Torokei-san Eiho-ji Temple

This is Japan's earliest Zen Buddhist garden from the Kamakura period. The temple's "Kannon-do" and "Kaisan-do" are designated National Treasures, and its pond-style garden is a renowned National Scenic Spot.

▲ Ena Gorge

This artificial scenic spot, formed by a dam lake, is a breathtaking sightseeing destination, boasting vibrant cherry blossoms in spring and breathtaking autumn foliage. A breathtaking landscape of precipitous cliffs, a winding stream stretching 12 kilometers, steep cliffs, and bizarre rock formations is forged by natural erosion!

▲ Magome-juku and Tsumago-juku
Once important post towns, Magome-juku and neighboring Tsumago-juku were located along the ancient Nakasendo Road, the route from Tokyo to Kyoto. Today, both Magome-juku and Tsumago-juku are well-preserved "open-air museums." Magome-juku remains a vibrant and active post town, still inhabited. Its historic architecture evokes a bygone era, evoking 400 years of vibrant history and making it a photographer's paradise.

▲ Tsumago-juku
Joining Magome-juku, Tsumago-juku has been awarded one star in the Michelin Green Guide and is considered a representative tourist destination in Japan. It remains one of the country's most pristine villages. It is renowned for its preserved traditional Japanese architecture and rich history. Its streets, bridges, and buildings retain the integrity of the Edo period, offering visitors a time-lapse experience.

Magome and Tsumago hold their own unique festivals each year, including the Kisoji Snow Lantern Festival (February), the Tsumago Fire Festival (August), and the "Culture, Government, and Customs Picture Scroll Parade" on November 23rd. Over 100 people dressed as samurai, ronin, and messengers parade through the streets, reminiscent of the Edo period.
