In Yamagata Prefecture, bordering Miyagi Prefecture, lies Ginzan Onsen, nestled along the Ginzan River valley. The clear, steaming waters of the Ginzan River flow through the area, and rows of wooden inns create a tranquil, idyllic atmosphere. Legend has it that over 500 years ago, the discovery of silver mining here gave the area the name "Ginzan." Ginzan flourished due to the mining, but declined with the decline of silver production. It wasn't until the early Showa era, when hot springs were discovered, that Ginzan's fame flourished, and it continues to attract visitors today. The classic Japanese drama "Oshin" was also filmed here. The bathhouse in Hayao Miyazaki's acclaimed film "Spirited Away" is said to have been inspired by Ginzan Onsen. Stepping into Ginzan Onsen gives one the romantic illusion of traveling back in time to the Taisho era.

Yamagata Prefecture in Japan also boasts a truly spectacular and unique snow-viewing wonder: the Zao Juhyo! Located on the border of Yamagata and Miyagi prefectures, Zao is a mountain park centered around the Zao Mountain Range. It's accessible year-round and popular for hiking, foliage viewing, and snowfall viewing.

The most unique of these is the Zao Juhyo, which appears every winter. Juhyo forms when water-laden air cools, condensing into frost on the mountain forest. This frost then accumulates and wraps around the trees, earning it the nickname "Ice Monster." During the day, you can take in this magnificent spectacle from high above by riding the Zao Cable Car, which feels like a military parade. At night, you can witness the colorful illuminations of the Zao trees during the ice season. It is not only magical, but also a super popular Instagram check-in spot!

Travel Notes

Infants under 6 years old can join for free, but do not occupy a seat or receive a meal. Each adult is limited to one free infant. Infants under 6 years old who require a seat will be charged the same rate as children aged 6-12 years old.

Due to road restrictions entering Ginzan Onsen, a shuttle bus will be required at the Taisho Romankan. The fare is 500 yen for adults (subject to local shuttle bus fares). Please prepare change for payment on board.

If the Zao Ropeway is suspended due to force majeure factors such as traffic or weather, the Zao Ropeway fare (3,500 yen for adults and 1,700 yen for children) will be refunded.

This is a "shared ride" tour. You will be sharing a ride with other passengers, so seat assignments are not possible.

Each passenger may bring one piece of luggage (under 24 inches). Vehicles will be assigned based on the number of passengers and luggage; reservations are not possible.
If you have any special dietary restrictions or allergies, please contact customer service in advance. Vegetarian meals are not available.

Cancellation Clauses

Cancellation Policy for Local Day Tours in Japan

Cancellations made 12 days or more before the selected itinerary date will receive a full refund.

Cancellations made between 8 and 11 days before the selected itinerary date will incur a 20% handling fee.

Cancellations made between 3 and 7 days before the selected itinerary date will incur a 30% handling fee.

Cancellations made between 1 and 2 days before the selected itinerary date will incur a 50% handling fee.

Cancellations made between 0 and 10 days before the start of the itinerary will not receive a refund.

If the event is affected by force majeure (e.g., typhoon warnings, heavy rain alerts, etc.), the organizer will determine whether to cancel the event. A refund will be issued to the original payment method after deducting necessary expenses.

Requests for rescheduling due to personal reasons will be deemed cancellations and will be handled in accordance with the cancellation policy outlined above.

If participation is terminated during the event due to reasons not attributable to the organizer, no refund will be given.
