- Attraction Introduction | New Taipei City Taoyuan Valley + Caoling Historic Trail Day Hike -

▲ Caoling Historic Trail
The Caoling Historic Trail is the most iconic historical and cultural trail in Northeast Taiwan. It was a section of the Tamsui-Kavalan Trail, opened by ancestors in the 19th century, between Tamsui and Kavalan. It is one of the only remaining sections of the trail. The most notable ancient relics along this section are the "Heroic Towning the Wild Smoke" stele and the "Tiger" stele. Other cultural relics scattered along the trail include the Falling Horse Bridge, the Tudigong Temple, and the ruins of a guesthouse.

▲ Xiongzhen Manyan Stele (National Grade III Historic Site)
Inscribed in 1867 by Liu Mingdeng, the General of Taiwan Town, to suppress a mountain demon.

▲ Tiger Stele (National Grade III Historic Site)
Located approximately 130 meters from the highest point of the ancient trail, at an altitude of approximately 330 meters. In 1867, Liu Mingdeng's path was blocked by a storm. Drawing inspiration from the I Ching's idiom, "Clouds follow the dragon, wind follows the tiger," he used reed flowers as a brush and wrote on the spot.

▲ Taoyuan Valley
Formerly known as "Kun Niu Niu Mountain," Taoyuan Valley was a grazing ground for local farmers in the early days. Nestled on a ridge where mountains and sea meet, Taoyuan Valley sits on a grassland 500 meters above sea level, overlooking the vast Pacific Ocean and Guishan Island. The grassland scenery and the stunning sea and sky complement each other, creating a paradise-like scene, hence the name "Taoyuan Valley." Along the trail, you'll find vast grasslands, old rice terraces, and even large herds of buffalo roaming around.
