Tour Overview
Toucheng was once as prosperous as Wanhua and Dadaocheng in Taipei. The vibrant trade of merchant and fishing vessels plied the waters of Yilan's former capital, fueling its prosperity a century ago and fostering the beauty of its architecture and culture. From the late Qing Dynasty, the Japanese colonial period, and the postwar era, each period retains its distinctive architecture. The old streets are home to ancient monuments and temples, red brick roofs from the Minnan era, intricate carvings and painted stone from the Japanese colonial era, and Baroque arches and columns. The interplay of time and space has shaped the Toucheng Old Street of today, and even more fascinating stories unfold here.
On December 20th, join Professor Tsai Ming-chih as he unveils the mysteries of Yilan's architecture and local culture.
This Associate Professor in the Department of Cultural Heritage and Creativity at Fo Guang University has long researched the preservation and revitalization of cultural heritage and Yilan's local culture.
The local culinary heritage of Toucheng, Yilan's former capital. Toucheng, a land of fish and rice, is a microcosm of Taiwan, accessible from the mountains in just half an hour. Let the local youth of Toucheng lead us on a journey through the alleyways of Toucheng, sharing the local food culture.
On December 6th and 12th, follow local Big Head King on a food spree through the old streets and alleyways (three dishes included).
▲ Toucheng Sea-Drifting Wine Bottle Lamp DIY
Biao, who initially went to the beach to collect trash, stumbled upon a pile of wood and glass bottles. Thinking that discarding them would only cause environmental stress, he realized that using them would be the only way to solve the problem. Inspired by this, he began creating glass bottle lamps. This creation blends art, beauty, and practicality, adding interest to life. It transforms discarded wine bottles into beautiful home decorations, bringing back the light of discarded bottles that have wandered into Toucheng.
