Two-Day Trip to Hsinchu's Xiakaluo Trail for Fall Foliage Viewing and Singuang Village Slow Walking

The Xiakaluo Trail retains many traces of history. Walking slowly with our guide and listening to the stories of the forest is like stepping into a time tunnel. We've specially arranged to only hike the section from the Yanglao trailhead to the front of Ma'an. The trail is gently paved, and surrounded by crimson leaves, which shimmer even more brilliantly in the sunlight, the scenery is like a dream, a must-see autumn wonder.

▲ Xiakaluo National Trail
The Xiakaluo Trail connects Shilu and Yanglao. Originally a traditional area for Atayal people to intermarry, migrate, and hunt, it was transformed during the Japanese colonial period into a 49.2-kilometer-long road for managing aboriginal affairs. In 2001, the trail was designated the first national trail, stretching approximately 24 kilometers. Fourteen police stations were renovated (only the Baishi station remains intact). The approximately 10-kilometer round trip from Yanglao to Ma'an Station is a gentle, leisurely walk. Dense maple forests line the route, the air is rich with maple fragrance, and dense bamboo forests create a relaxing and relaxing atmosphere, making it the most relaxing section of the ancient trail.

▲ Xinguang Tribe
A must-see when visiting Xinguang Tribe is the tribal tour. Enter the Xinguang Elementary School's forest classroom, learn about the cultural route of the Atayal people's northward migration, and stroll through the small village as the guide shares unique tribal stories. You can also visit the unique Zhenxibao Church (subject to the day's schedule). Circling the trails, you can enjoy the mountain breeze, feel the gradations of light before sunset, and walk along the trail, letting your shadows remind you that the day is almost over. The tribal guide's playful Atayal humor makes the afternoon even more special.

▲ Yulao Observation Deck

Jianshi Township, Hsinchu County, is vast. The Yulao Tribe (Observation Deck) marks the boundary between the front and back mountains. It also serves as the dividing line for major tribes, including Zhenxibao, Xinguang, Taigang, Simakusi, Xiuluan, and Yanglao. Take a break here, enjoy the mid-altitude breeze, and gaze out at the ridgeline of the Snow Mountain Range from the Dabajian Mountain Range. This unique experience tells the story of the Atayal people's migration and offers a unique perspective.
