Tour Overview

Head to Kenting, the southernmost tip of Taiwan, a tropical resort with azure ocean and lush green mountains.

For the first time, enjoy an exclusive nighttime guided tour! Enter the Kenting National Forest Recreation Area at night and explore Kenting's unique forest ecosystem, including high coral reef forests and limestone formations.

Every October is the season when the Grey-faced Buzzard flies over the Hengchun Peninsula. Locals will personally lead you to admire hundreds of magnificent eagles circling in the sky and tell you the stories of the people and eagles in the past.

Hengchun Township in Pingtung County (Taiwan's southernmost administrative district) is known for its unique topography, climate, and cultural history, which gave rise to the three treasures of Hengchun: onions, sesame, and Gangkou tea.

Every October, Grey-faced Buzzards arrive on the Hengchun Peninsula with the northeast monsoon. As the sun sets at noon, the eagles begin searching for temporary roosting spots. Local guides will lead you to the best hidden birdwatching spots in the Reed Community. While enjoying the cool breeze of the stream, gaze up and witness the majestic Grey-faced Buzzards soaring in the sky.

For the first time, Kenting National Forest Recreation Park is offering exclusive nighttime tours. Led by community guides, you'll explore the park's high coral reefs, known as "One Line of Sky," and limestone formations.

The second day's itinerary features a walkthrough exploring the stories of Hengchun's three treasures: onions, ramie, and kanggang tea. At the ramie industry history exhibition area, visitors will see historical production equipment and machinery, learn about the glorious history of the ramie industry, and reminisce about the life and culture of Hengchun's three treasures.

Attractions -

▲ Kenting National Forest Recreation Area

Millions of years ago, the Kenting National Forest Recreation Area was an underwater paradise home to numerous corals, seaweed, and shellfish. Approximately 500,000 years ago, the Eurasian and Philippine Sea Plates collided, lifting the previously submerged coral reefs. Over time, the coral reefs became covered in dense mosses, mushrooms, and ferns, which then formed into a forest, gradually developing into a majestic monsoon rainforest, the high coral reef forest we know today.

▲ Lide Community

Every year around Taiwan's National Day (October 10th), large numbers of Grey-faced Buzzards (also known as National Day Birds) fly through Lide Village, making it Taiwan's largest eagle-watching spot, attracting birdwatchers from both domestic and international communities to observe eagles taking flight and landing. Furthermore, this hidden bird-watching area boasts pristine forests along the route, with breathtaking canyons and the Lanrenxi Waterfall nestled within the canyon walls. The lush forests create a mystical and tranquil atmosphere.

▲ Hengchun's Three Treasures

The Hengchun Peninsula has a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons, and powerful "downwind winds" prevail in autumn and winter. This unique geographical location and climatic and territorial conditions have endowed the Hengchun Peninsula with not only abundant natural beauty but also the three treasures of Hengchun that have brought prosperity to the local residents: onions, ramie, and Gangkou tea.

After successful trial cultivation on the Hengchun Peninsula during the Japanese colonial period, onions have become a key cash crop on the peninsula due to their high nutritional value. The downwind winds prevent the leaf veins of Hengchun's onions from growing high, trapping nutrients within the bulbs and resulting in their excellent flavor and sweetness.

Ramie, also introduced during the Japanese colonial period, is a fiber plant best adapted to the local climate and soil. Before the advent of nylon, it was a primary material for making ropes and fishing nets.

Gangkou tea, a tea grown at Taiwan's lowest altitude, boasts a strong bitterness, a high concentration, and a long-lasting aroma. Its rich, refreshing flavor leaves a lasting aftertaste and a unique and distinctive taste.
