Tour Overview

Take a ride on the Wulai trolley used to transport timber and relive the forestry life of the 1930s

Visit the Fushan Tribe, an aboriginal tribe located deep in the mountains of Wulai, where you can perform a blessing ceremony and experience the life of the Atayal people.

Take a relaxing hike in Neidong Forest on the outskirts of Taipei and observe the ecology of ferns and butterflies.

If you're curious about the inseparable historical connection between Wulai's trolleys and Taiwan's forestry, this itinerary is a must-see. Take a ride on one of the original Wulai trolleys used to transport timber, journey through the mountains and forests, and explore vintage photos at the Wulai Forestry Museum, reliving the forestry life of the 1930s.

Beyond its forestry heritage, Wulai boasts the world's northernmost Atayal settlement. Let a tribal expert guide you into the lives of the people, learning about Atayal culture from the tribal faith center's Catholic Church and Ark Church, Fushan Elementary School, and the Atayal Cultural Relics Room. Then, journey to Neidong National Forest Recreation Area, nestled between mountains and water, to observe tree ferns and diverse ecosystems dating back to the Jurassic period, and leisurely enjoy a rich phytoncide and negative ion feast.

- Attraction Introduction -

▲ Neidong National Forest Recreation Area
Neidong National Forest Recreation Area is the most accessible national forest recreation area in the Greater Taipei area. Located at an altitude of approximately 230-800 meters, it is a low-altitude forest environment. The abundant water resources of the Nanshi and Neidong Rivers provide a favorable habitat and growth environment for flora and fauna, making it one of northern Taiwan's best birdwatching spots. The park is home to a rich variety of ferns and insects. Nearly 65 species of ferns can be found on the short waterfall-viewing trail alone, making it a natural learning experience accessible to the public.

▲ Wulai Trolley

Earlier, the Wulai Trolley was used to transport logging vehicles through the mountains. After logging ceased, the trolleys were repurposed for sightseeing, transporting tourists. The lightweight trolleys slowly weave through the forests and along the riverbanks, offering breathtaking views of the mountainous and lush scenery from the windows – an experience enjoyed by both adults and children.

▲ Fushan Tribe

Visiting the undeveloped Atayal Tribe near Taipei, the air is filled with a sense of leisure and tranquility. Starting from the painted wall and Fushan Elementary School, and continuing to the Ancient Canal Trail, you can observe the tribe's culture and beliefs, as well as the rich flora and fauna. You can even learn about the Atayal people who care for the forest through signs displaying their life conventions.
