Once known as the Dark Tribe, it was also the deepest aboriginal tribe in Taiwan. ▲ Simakus YAYA Sacred Tree
Simakus, known as the "Tribe of God," is also home to the Atayal tribe, known as the deepest in Taiwan's mountains. The 2,500-year-old YAYA Big Lord Sacred Tree, located on the Simakus Giant Trees Trail, is the largest and oldest tree in the group. Its shape resembles a gentle mother, opening her arms to embrace her children who visit the mountains, waiting for you to listen to the sounds of the forest.

Located at kilometer 20 on Hsinchu County Road 60, the Yulao Observation Deck, at an altitude of approximately 1,450 meters, serves as a stopover on the way to Simakus. Its high altitude creates a wind vent in the valley, and the low temperatures create a unique mountain scenery. From the observation deck, you can take in the views of the front and back mountains. Be sure to dress warmly in the winter, but in the summer, it's a great place to escape the heat.

Stop at Yulao Observation Deck for a rest (estimated stay of 15 minutes)

11:00 Simakus Giant Trees Trail or Tribal Tour (estimated stay 4.5 hours)

16:00 Meet at the trailhead parking lot

16:20 Go down the mountain on time and return safely

19:00 Return to the warm home

Travel Notes

- Entrance Fee Information: Starting June 1, 2021, Simakus Tribe will charge a discretionary entrance fee of NT$100 (a flat fee applies on both weekends and holidays). This entrance fee cannot be used to offset any purchases.
- This tour includes a driver-driven pick-up and drop-off service. Meals and attraction information are provided, but no guided tours are offered.
- This tour does not include lunch. Please bring your own lunch to enjoy on the Giant Tree Trail or at Canaan Restaurant. Served from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM
- No refunds will be issued if the itinerary is delayed due to force majeure factors such as traffic, weather, and attraction quota restrictions, resulting in the inability to complete some attractions.
- This tour is a self-organized, chartered car transfer. Please specify your pick-up and drop-off locations when placing your order. Pick-up and drop-off locations are limited to Taipei City and New Taipei City, and are limited to one location. If you require multiple pick-up locations, please inquire in advance and indicate in the reservation notes. Each additional location will incur an additional charge of NT$500 or more.
- In the event of adverse weather conditions such as typhoons or storms, cancellation of the tour will be decided one day before departure, and notification will be sent via email at any time thereafter.
- Detailed pick-up and drop-off information and the driver's contact information will be provided at least one day before departure. Please check for this email or text message.
- All itineraries are based on availability, but the driver may adjust the itinerary based on traffic conditions, weather conditions, and the length of stay at attractions.
- Weekends are subject to heavy traffic and crowds. We apologize for any delays in travel time or visitor length due to restrictions or force majeure. No refunds will be granted for these reasons.
- For pickup or drop-off locations in Taoyuan/Hsinchu, please note that 1.5-2 hours will be deducted from the total charter time to allow the driver to travel to and from Taipei.
- Tips are free to the driver. If you are satisfied with the driver's service, we recommend a minimum of NT$100 per person per day as a token of appreciation.

Cancellation Clauses

Cancellations made 7 days prior to the start of the trip will receive a full refund.

Cancellations made 4-6 days (including the 6th day) prior to the start of the trip will incur a 30% handling fee.

Cancellations made 1-3 days (including the 3rd day) prior to the start of the trip will not receive a refund.

Cancellations made on the start date of the trip will not receive a refund.

If the event is affected by force majeure (e.g., typhoon warnings, heavy rain alerts, etc.), the organizer will determine whether to cancel the event. A refund will be issued to the original payment method after deducting necessary expenses.

Rescheduling due to personal reasons will be deemed a cancellation and will be handled in accordance with the above cancellation policy.

If participation is terminated during the event due to reasons not attributable to the organizer, no refund will be given.
