Tour Overview

Experience Keelung like a cat on foot and with an audio guide

Limited walking session: August 20 (Saturday)

Take a trip to Heping Island and experience a cultural shock! Keelung, a city inextricably linked to the sea, boasts a vast azure ocean, sharply defined mountains, relentless rain, and a seaside lifestyle that fosters a uniquely humane atmosphere.

⛰ It's truly an island, and the closest outlying island to Keelung.
⛰ A diverse cultural convergence: what history textbooks don't tell you.
⛰ A natural geography classroom, a paradise for geological landscape enthusiasts.
⛰ Learn the wisdom of coexisting with the sea through a book of thorns and stone flowers.
⛰ Explore the ruins of old buildings gradually forgotten by history.

The fishing port remembered by Keelung residents is Zhengbin Fishing Port, once Taiwan's largest port. During the Japanese colonial period, it was not only Taiwan's first modern fishing port, but also the most important unloading terminal for Keelung's offshore fishing industry after the war. With over 80 years of history, this port still retains its charm, and in recent years, it has gradually transformed and revitalized.

Keelung's ocean gives the city a distinctly "island" feel, and indeed, there's an "outlying island" here.

Heping Island, the closest outlying island to Keelung, is connected by Taiwan's first cross-sea bridge. Walking across this bridge, you'll not only be treated to expansive views but also be struck by the vibrant diversity of cultures.

During the Age of Exploration, this island was a battleground for military strategists, destined to become a cultural fusion. Here, you'll find ruins of Spanish fortifications, Dutch inscriptions on mountain walls, former Japanese dormitories, Ryukyu settlements and their legacy of fishing techniques, and the indigenous culture of Taiwan's indigenous peoples.

In this place where history intersects, those who rely on the ocean for their livelihoods share a deep faith. Wangye Temple, Tianhou Temple, and Fude Temple—each of these religious centers stems from a desire for peace and tranquility. Heping Island has become a combination of outlying islands, fishing ports, ruins and culture. It is also a place for wandering away from the hustle and bustle. Wandering on the outlying islands sounds a bit romantic. Take a trip to Heping Island and collect the unique scenery along the way.
