Seven Hell Hot Springs of Beppu, Enjoy Them All with One Ticket

The hell scene will definitely make travelers amazed and worth the trip.

Combined with the Kyushu Beppu Bus One-Day Pass, travel is more convenient

Beppu Hell Hot Springs is a must-see attraction in Kyushu, Japan. Quba offers a Beppu Hell Hot Springs package, allowing you to visit at least four of the Beppu Hells and earn your money back. The Beppu Hell Hot Springs boast seven distinct hot springs. The name "Beppu Hell Hot Springs" stems from the unique geographical features of the area, which the Japanese believe closely resemble the Buddhist concept of hell, hence the name "hell." The seven most famous are Umi Hell, Onishi-bozu Hell, Stove Hell, Oniyama Hell, Shiraike Hell, Blood Pond Hell, and Tornado Hell. Each of the Beppu Hells has its own unique landscape. If you're interested, grab your ticket now and experience the Beppu Hells in person!

– About the Attraction | Beppu Hell Hot Springs Package –

▲ Umi Hell

Umi Hell is the largest of the seven Beppu Hells. Formed 1,200 years ago by the eruption of Mount Tsurumi, the waters are composed of iron sulfate, giving the water a clear, azure blue hue, refraction from sunlight, creating the illusion of the ocean. However, the temperature is a staggering 98°C.

▲Keiike Hot Springs
Keiike Hot Springs, with a water temperature of 78°C, is Japan's most famous Beppu Hell. Recorded in the Bungo Fudoki as "Red Hot Spring," it is Japan's oldest natural hell, having been known as "Red Hot Spring" as early as the 8th century.

▲Tornado Hell
Tornado Hell's most distinctive feature is its "Geisuke Spring," a designated Beppu City Natural Monument. This geyser erupts at regular intervals, boasting the shortest intervals among all geysers in the world and drawing widespread attention.

▲Shiraike Hell
Shiraike Hell is a designated National Scenic Spot. Although the water gushes forth from the pool as colorless and transparent, the lowered temperature and pressure cause the surface to appear bluish-white upon returning to the surface. While seemingly calm and beautiful, the spring's temperature is actually approximately 95°C, and the geyser is a constant roar.

▲Onishi-Bozu Hell
Bozu means monk, and Onishi is a place name, suggesting the Onishi-Monk Hell. Because the boiling hot mud in the pool constantly bubbles out, resembling the heads of monks, it's called Onishi-Bozu Hell.

▲ Onishiyama Hell

Derived from the name of Onishiyama, Onishiyama Hell is also known as "Crocodile Hell." In 1912, Japan first used the heat from hot springs to raise crocodiles. There are now 150 crocodiles, and the spring temperature is 98 degrees Celsius.

▲ Stove Hell

Long ago, the Ujigami Kamado Hachiman Shrine used the heat from the hell to prepare offerings during the spring and autumn festivals, giving rise to the custom of "Stove Hell." Stove Hell has six distinct hells, each with its own unique character, and this one is the most beautiful. The hot spring water is blue, with rising steam and vermilion railings, and the pool changes color throughout the day.
