Kumamoto Castle, one of Japan's three great castles along with Osaka Castle and Nagoya Castle, was built by Kato Kiyomasa, a general under Toyotomi Hideyoshi, during his tenure as lord of Kumamoto Castle. It holds a profound place in the hearts of the Japanese people. When Kato Kiyomasa built the castle, he considered the need for food supplies in the event of a siege, and he planted a large area of ginkgo trees within the castle walls. The fruits could be used as wartime rations. For this reason, Kumamoto Castle is also known as "Ginkgo Castle." It's also a famous cherry blossom viewing spot (around late March and early April each year).

A new Kumamoto tourist attraction, "Sakura no Baba Josaien," opened on March 5, 2011, in the Sakura no Baba area of Kumamoto Castle.

In addition to the "Wakura-Wakura-za" historical and cultural experience facility and the "Sakura no Koji" food and beverage venue, "Sakura no Koji" is a charming recreation of an Edo-period castle town, featuring 23 carefully curated shops from Kumamoto Prefecture.

Located in northeastern Kumamoto Prefecture on Kyushu Island, it is a symbol of Kumamoto and is known for its large caldera, a composite volcano. Slightly oval in shape, it stretches 24 kilometers from north to south and 18 kilometers from east to west, with a circumference of approximately 120 kilometers and an area of 250 square kilometers. Located at the confluence of the east-west Hakusan volcanic belt and the north-south Kirishima volcanic belt, it is composed of Miocene-Pleistocene andesite and rhyolite, forming Japan's largest caldera between 300,000 and 90,000 years ago. It is a popular hot spring destination for travelers and travelers.
