One of Korea's four major winter festivals, Hwacheon Ice Fishing, is set to begin in 2025! Fishing on the thick glaciers of Hwacheon, surrounded by white snow, is a winter activity only experienced in high-latitude countries. This increasingly popular activity not only tests your affinity for wild fish (or your fishing skills), but also offers many unique winter activities. The most appealing part of Hwacheon Ice Fishing is that after the experience, you can take your catch to a nearby sashimi vendor, where it will be freshly cut up for a delicious sashimi feast! The "Ice Kingdom Hwacheon Trout Festival" is held in Hwacheon, Gangwon Province, where the thickest ice forms the fastest in winter. In addition to ice fishing for trout, the festival also offers a variety of winter activities, such as sledding and snowmobiling, which allows you to traverse the snow and ice at high speeds.
The Hwacheon Trout Ice Fishing Experience features 12,000 fishing holes. With Hwacheon's clear, 2-meter-deep water, you can see schools of fish swimming freely beneath the ice through the holes. To ensure every visitor has a successful ice fishing trip, 1-2 tons of trout will be released daily during the festival, making it a perfect opportunity for families and friends to enjoy the experience.

Travel Notes

- Adult rates apply for children 3 years and older; children under 36 months old are free. (Children who travel for free will not be provided with meals, seating, or admission tickets.)
- A 5,000 KRW voucher will be provided during the tour. The method and location of use will be announced by the organizer on-site.
- This experience does not guarantee fishing. The company will not be held responsible if no fish are caught at the end of the tour.
- The final decision regarding the availability of ice fishing activities and ice attractions rests with the organizer. If cancellations are caused by the organizer or weather conditions, we will notify you immediately, at least one day before departure. Guests cannot claim additional compensation under these circumstances.
