▲ Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse
Located in Augusta, Australia's most southwestern point, Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is a century-old lighthouse, 39 meters tall. Built in 1895, it sits at the confluence of the South Pacific and Indian Oceans, where these two oceans frequently produce monstrous waves. Winter brings particularly high winds and rough seas, making it a shipwreck blackspot. Numerous ships have sunk here over the years, and since its completion, not only has the number of shipwrecks decreased significantly, but the lighthouse has also become a vital station and meteorological data collection point in Australia. This majestic lighthouse is close to many other attractions in Augusta, including the beautiful limestone caves.

Less than a three-hour drive south of Perth brings you to the coastal town of Busselton, where its 1.8-kilometer-long jetty is its most famous landmark. Built in 1865, the jetty is located in Geographe Bay, where a wharf was built to meet shipping needs. As timber and agricultural exports flourished, the piers continued to extend out to sea over the following decades, gradually evolving into the Busselton Jetty we see today—the longest wooden pier in the Southern Hemisphere. People stroll, fish, and dive on the bridge; beneath it swim, kayak, and sail. The pier at dusk is a photographer's delight. The azure sky, the turquoise bay, the white pier, the red train. In countless journeys of life, I never imagined that one of my stops would be in the middle of the ocean.
