Heungseoji Temple

Heungseoji Temple was founded in 654 AD by the monk Jajang, who traveled extensively to famous mountains across the country. Originally named Hyangseongsa Temple, it was subsequently rebuilt after several fires. Legend has it that three monks at the temple later had a dream that indicated the temple's location. They then built the temple on its current location and named it after the divine guidance, which became the present-day Heungseoji Temple.


The temple boasts a 1,400-year-old bell, a bronze steamer gifted by King Sunjo of Joseon, Geuknakbojeon, a sutra tablet, Bojeru, the three-story stone pagoda on the grounds of Hyangseongsa Temple, as well as the Three Buddhas, the Hell Hall, Seonjeru, and Chilsungak. It is a must-see attraction on any visit to Seoraksan.


Sokcho Beach

Sokcho Beach officially opened in July 1976. The beach stretches approximately 2 kilometers from Cheongho-dong, Joyang-dong, and Daepo-dong, with the open area comprising 1 kilometer in length and 75 meters in width, covering an area of 29,752 square meters. It is a popular destination for Sokcho residents and international tourists alike. Furthermore, the proximity to major tourist attractions such as Seoraksan Mountain, Cheoksan Hot Springs, Cheongcho Lake, and Yeongrang Lake makes Sokcho a significant tourist destination. As the only beach in the Sokcho area, the city has dedicated significant efforts to centrally manage this unique beach, resulting in a well-organized beach compared to other beaches, leaving visitors with a pleasant impression of cleanliness.
