Pingtung's Alangyi Historic Trail is a hidden gem that requires prior application and a bit of luck to explore. Led by a professional guide, you'll journey between mountains and sea, exploring the Alangyi Historic Trail, known as "Taiwan's last remaining pristine coastline without a road." Gain a deeper understanding of this hidden path, a treasure trove of cultural stories and unique ecology. (※To preserve this beauty, daily admission is limited, and a monthly lottery system is used. To ensure availability, it's recommended to register at least a month in advance.)

-About Alangyi-

The Alangyi Historic Trail is approximately 8 kilometers long. On one side, the vast Pacific Ocean, on the other, rolling mountains, offering a glimpse into the pristine, unspoiled coastal ecology.

During the Qing Dynasty, the ancestors of the Skaro people migrated along the Alangyi Historic Trail to the Hengchun Peninsula, where they led the Paiwan tribe's 18th tribe. Following the Mudan Incident, Japan, seeking to expand eastward, also opened the Pingtung Alangyi Hiking Trail. The Pingtung Alangyi Historic Trail is a vital route that bears the historical footprints of eastern Taiwan's development. In addition to its rich history and cultural heritage, the Alangyi Historic Trail, once a heavily military-controlled area, has preserved its precious natural ecology. This stretch of the Xuhai-Jialesui coastline, spanning eastern and southern Taiwan, is only 8 kilometers long, yet it encompasses a rich coastal landscape and a diverse array of rare flora and fauna.

Travel Notes

[Registration Instructions]
． [Maintenance Notice] Starting September 8, 2025, due to trail renovations, only one entry and exit point will be open: "Entrance and exit from the southern end of the reserve (Xuhai), with the turning point at Gunkan Rock." Therefore, you can only enter and exit from Xuhai for the time being, and will not be able to complete the entire trail (turning back halfway). Please accept this and register beforehand.
． Please ensure you are in good health. Those with heart disease, high blood pressure, or pregnant women are not suitable for this experience and should not register.
． If you are bringing children, please consider their physical fitness and leg strength. If you do not want to continue halfway, there will be no car service available! (Children and adults pay the same price.)
． To successfully complete the Alangyi application process, please complete the participant information immediately after booking. Failure to complete the application process will be deemed as a forfeiture and disqualification, and no refund will be given. Please agree to this before registering for the Alang-i Historic Trail.

． Please note!! Do not register through other registration channels (including travel agencies). If duplicate registration results in your park admission application being denied, no cancellation or refund will be given. Please agree to this before registering.

． Application lottery results: The reserved area will draw lots 30 days prior to departure, and confirmation will be made approximately two business days after departure, with notification via email. If you do not receive a spot in Alang-i and decide to cancel your reservation without rescheduling, a NT$50 administrative fee will be deducted per person, and the remaining amount will be refunded in full. If you postpone your reservation to another date, no fees will be deducted.

． Once your Alang-i application is confirmed, to avoid misunderstandings regarding information changes, no changes, cancellations, or substitutions will be permitted. If the tour is cancelled for any reason, the standardized tourism contract will not apply. Please accept this explanation before registering.

． This activity is entirely on foot and lasts approximately 6 hours. If any incidents occur during the activity, please inform the tour guide immediately. Those in poor health should assess their condition before registering.
． Please meet on time. Late arrivals or no-shows will result in the tour being cancelled without refund.
． The order or part of the activity may be adjusted based on weather conditions, traveler availability, or special circumstances.
． To protect the mountain environment, picnicking is prohibited. Please bring your own trash home and do not litter.

Getting There

(1) Drive to the meeting point (parking is available near the city gate). (2) For those taking public transportation: You can take a bus (a joint operation of Pingtung Bus, Kaohsiung Bus, and Taiwan Bus Kuo-Kuang Express) to Hengchun from Kaohsiung Railway Station, Zuoying High Speed Rail Station, or Fangliao Railway Station. The journey takes about 2.5-3 hours. Get off at the Hengchun Transfer Station and walk to the meeting point at the East Gate (about a 7-10 minute walk).
