Dazaifu is most famous for its Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, dedicated to Sugawara Michizane, known as the Japanese God of Learning. It is the headquarters of 12,000 Tenmangu shrines nationwide, comparable in status to the Confucius Temple in China. It is a famous tourist attraction in Fukuoka, attracting over 7 million visitors annually to pray for good luck on their exams and success in the imperial examinations. Mentioning Sugawara Michizane often brings to mind plum blossoms, an association deeply ingrained in people. Sugawara Michizane had long been exposed to Chinese culture through literature, and the plum blossom is China's national flower. He deeply loved the plum blossoms he planted at home. Travel Notes

Children aged 0-5 are free, but cannot exchange for umegae mochi.

The Dazaifu-Yanagawa Value Pass is valid for one month from the date of redemption, but must be used within two days of the original ticket.

The Dazaifu-Yanagawa Value Pass is valid only for boarding at either Dazaifu or Yanagawa Station. For example, this route is valid: Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station → Dazaifu → Yanagawa → Fukuoka (Tenjin). This route is not valid: Day 1: Fukuoka (Tenjin) → Yanagawa → Fukuoka (Tenjin), Day 2: Fukuoka (Tenjin) → Dazaifu → Fukuoka (Tenjin).

The Dazaifu-Yanagawa Value Pass is valid only for boarding the Yanagawa Tourism Development Co., Ltd. "Shogetsu" ferry terminal. Upon arrival at Yanagawa Station, please proceed to the Cruise Information Counter next to the ticket gates on the second floor or the Cruise Meeting Point on the first floor, located in Karatachi Shopping Street, adjacent to the station. A staff member will guide you to the boarding point.
╴ Cruise operating hours: 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM.
╴ The cruise is a one-way trip. After disembarking at the terminal, to return to Yanagawa Station, please take a taxi, a paid bus (additional fare), or the free shuttle bus.
