The Akita Kanto Festival is said to have originated in the Horeki era (mid-Edo period) as a summer ritual to ward off evil spirits and ward off illness. As night falls, the sound of taiko drums grows louder, and lanterns light up. Following the relentless drumming, the kanto (pole lanterns) begin to rise from the ground, supported by foreheads, shoulders, palms, and waists. The skill of the operators is truly astonishing.

The Tohoku Akita Kanto Festival will transport you into a world of fantasy and emotion.

※You will be given an observation ticket and a map upon check-in. Please proceed to the Akita Kanto Festival venue on your own. (The observation seats are approximately a 10-20 minute walk from Akita Castle Hotel).

※The check-in desk is only available in Japanese.

・Special seating (front or back row) is not available.

・The spectator seats are not covered, so please bring your own rain gear.

・Refunds will not be issued if the Akita Kanto Festival is canceled or temporarily suspended due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

1. This Akita Kanto Festival tour does not offer single rooms and is limited to groups of two.

2. This is a self-guided tour without a national interpreter or tour leader.

3. If the minimum number of participants is less than 14 days before the departure date, the tour may be canceled.

4. We cannot provide vegetarian meals.

5. Children under 6 years old must book the children's option and the children's rate will apply. Individuals under 19 years old will not be accepted and must be accompanied by an adult.

Cancellation Clauses

Cancellations made 31 days prior to the start of a trip will incur a 10% handling fee.

Cancellations made 21-30 days (including the 30th day) prior to the start of a trip will incur a 20% handling fee.

Cancellations made 11-20 days (including the 20th day) prior to the start of a trip will incur a 30% handling fee.

Cancellations made 4-10 days (including the 10th day) prior to the start of a trip will incur a 50% handling fee.

Cancellations made 3 days prior to the start of a trip (including the 1st day) will incur a 100% handling fee.

Cancellations made on the day of the trip are non-refundable.

If the event is affected by force majeure (e.g., typhoon warnings, heavy rain alerts, etc.), the organizer will determine whether to cancel the event. A refund will be issued to the original payment method after deducting necessary expenses.

Rescheduling due to personal reasons will be deemed a cancellation and will be handled in accordance with the cancellation policy above.

If the participant cancels the event due to reasons not attributable to the organizer, no refund will be given.

Cancellations made 14 days prior to booking will receive a full refund.

Cancellations made 10-13 days before the booking date will receive a 70% refund.

Cancellations made 7-9 days before the booking date will receive a 50% refund.

Cancellations made 4-6 days before the booking date will receive a 40% refund.

Cancellations made 2-3 days before the scheduled date will receive a 30% refund.

Cancellations made 1 day before the scheduled date will receive a 20% refund.

Cancellations made on the scheduled date will not receive a refund.
