Tour Overview

Come discover the diverse faces of Ganghwa-gun, Incheon.

Remaining city gates and cannons bear witness to the vicissitudes of brutal battles.

A temple perched atop Jeongju Mountain exudes a tranquil and secluded atmosphere.

And the boundless mudflats call to mind your youthful soul.

Add to that a variety of activities, including archery, rubbing, and traditional tea tastings.

Over two days, you can truly discover the true essence of Ganghwa-gun, Incheon!

※Gwangseong Fortress

Gwangseong Fortress has been designated Historic Site No. 227. Every year on the 24th day of the fourth lunar month, the Gwangseongje Ceremony is held at 11:00 AM to commemorate the heroic sacrifices of the unknown warriors, including General Eo Jae-yeon. Preserved cannons, batteries, and city walls used during the war make this a perfect place for a family-friendly historical exploration. The panoramic views of the ocean and the curved lines of the fortresses from the fortress walls are truly impressive!

※Dongmak Beach

Dongmak Beach is considered one of the world's five largest tidal flats. When the tide goes out, the vast mudflats become endless. Visitors can experience digging for shellfish, conchs, clams, and catching big-eyed crabs, among other mudflat creatures. Children can also try mudflat diving, making it a wonderful place for families to enjoy together!

※Peace Observatory
The second floor of the Peace Observatory features a high-performance telescope and the Ganghwa National Defense Experience, which showcases the war's past and its aftermath. It also features North Korea's provocations, a comparison of North and South Korean military strength, the unwavering unification policy, and the Korean people. There's also the "Unification Road" tour, where you can experience a North Korean journey. Videos also offer insights into the background of the Korean War and the processes that led to domestic and international conflict. On the third floor, there's an observation deck offering close-up views of North Korea's mountains and rivers. Even on cloudy days, you can enjoy panoramic views of North Korea on a large screen.

※Jeondeungsa Temple
Jeondeungsa Temple boasts a variety of treasures and intricate carvings in the Daewongjeon and Yaksajeon temples. The surrounding area is also home to breathtaking scenery, including renowned sunsets and spectacular ocean views in the early mornings and evenings. There's also a bamboo forest and tea garden where you can relax.

※ Ganghwa Chojijin Fortress

In the 6th year of King Hyojong of Joseon (1656 AD), Chojijin Fortress was built to defend against foreign invasions from the sea. In 1871, the US Navy successfully captured Chojijin, severely damaging its armory and gunpowder magazine. In the 13th year of King Gojong of Joseon (1876 AD), the Korean Peninsula was forced to sign the Treaty of Amity between Korea and Japan (Ganghwa Island Treaty), opening the island to the outside world. By 1973, only the fortress ruins and part of the fortress wall remained. Chojijin Fortress was later restored. It now serves as a historical education site, preserving the fortress wall and displaying cannons from that era.
