Hoi An was once a maritime trade hub for countries like China, India, and Japan. Therefore, its architecture and culture blend the influences of various East Asian countries. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.

For example, the "Japanese Bridge" (Laiyuan Bridge) divides Hoi An into two parts. The bridge's two sides are the Chinese and Japanese quarters, and its exterior is renowned for its unique covered bridge structure.

The Fujian Guildhall was once an important venue for Fujianese overseas Chinese to worship deities and Buddhas, pay homage to their ancestors, and gather with fellow townspeople. The Guildhall, shaped like a river, stretches from Tran Phu Street to Phan Chau Trinh Street. It consists of three pavilions, a front courtyard, a pond, east and west row houses, a main hall, a back courtyard, and a rear hall. The main hall enshrines the "Tian Hou" (Vast Queen of Heaven) and the "Avalokitesvara" (Avalokitesvara) Bodhisattva, among other Chinese deities.
