In 2012, Fengnan Village in Fuli Township, Hualien County, was designated a Jilaha Ai Cultural Landscape Area, encompassing canals, terraces, secondary forests, orchards, ponds, settlements, rivers, and mountain forests, forming a complete cultural and ecological landscape. Jihalaai's six century-old canals irrigate the rice fields of the Jilamidae tribe. Without the aid of sophisticated scientific instruments, their ancestors utilized their local knowledge, deriving from living in the mountains and forests and drawing on all things. They cultivated terraces along the mountaintops and valleys, building the canals upon which their livelihoods depended. They never removed large rocks from the fields to expand their fields, nor did they cut down trees and destroy wildlife habitats to address the devastation posed by wild boars and monkeys.

An elder says: "The water the Amis drink isn't tap water; it flows from cracks in the rocks. The music they listen to is the chirping of birds, the croaking of frogs, the whistling of the wind, the gurgling of water, and the calls of mountain muntjacs!"
