There are five Gassho-style villages in Shirakawa-go, of which Ogimachi is the largest and most famous, boasting 113 intact Gassho-style houses. The name Gassho-style village comes from its architectural style: the gabled roofs resemble two clasped hands, hence the name "Gassho-style," and the village itself "Gassho-style village." 300 years ago, to adapt to the valley's natural environment, residents designed their wooden houses into equilateral triangles with 60-degree angles. This angle not only protected them from the cold winds, but also allowed them to withstand heavy snowfall. Since ancient times, the village has often been plagued by heavy snowstorms, cutting off access to the outside world. This unique local culture has been passed down to this day, further enhancing its mystical beauty.

Taking various transportation options, visitors can stroll along the snow-walled corridor between Tengudaira and Murododaira, admiring the nearly 18-meter-high walls of snow up close. #Section 1: Tateyama Cable Car, Tateyama Station to Bijodaira, takes 7 minutes.

This climb takes you up a 500-meter elevation gain and an average slope of 24 degrees, showcasing precious saimono and stone carvings along the way.

#Section 2: Tateyama Plateau Bus, Bijodaira to Midagahara to Murodo Station, takes 50 minutes.
Enjoy breathtaking views of nature from approximately 1,500 meters above sea level. The breathtaking scenery outside the train windows is truly breathtaking and will never tire of you.

#Section 3: Tateyama Tunnel Trolleybus, Murodo Station to Daikanbo Station, 10 minutes.

This trolleybus, operating at Japan's highest altitude of 2,450 meters, passes directly through a tunnel beneath Mt. Tateyama. Because it uses electricity, no exhaust is emitted.

#Section 4: Tateyama Aerial Ropeway, Daikanbo Station to Kurobe-daira Station, 7 minutes.

This is the largest of Japan's non-supported aerial cable cars and acts like a mobile observatory, offering breathtaking panoramic views.

#Section 5: Kurobe Mountain Cableway, Kurobe-daira Station to Kurobeko Station, 5 minutes.

This is Japan's only cable car whose entire route passes underground to protect the natural landscape and prevent avalanches.

#Section 6: Kanden Tunnel Trolleybus, Kurobeko Station to Ogizawa Station, 16 minutes.
This trolleybus runs through a tunnel excavated to transport materials during the construction of the Kurobe Dam. It crosses the border of Toyama and Nagano Prefectures and passes through a rock-crushed zone that was successfully broken through after difficult construction.
