- Getting to Know the Taiping Mountain Beech Trail -
The Taiping Mountain Beech Trail in Yilan is a trail rich in scenery, ecology, and facilities. It gets its name from the vast, virgin beech forest near its terminus. The trail is approximately 3.9 kilometers long, and the 8-kilometer round-trip hike takes about three hours. The well-maintained Taiping Mountain Beech Trail in Yilan offers a pleasant and relaxing hike. The first section of the trail follows a gently sloping, old light railway, while the latter section follows a logging path, winding along the slopes of Wangyang Mountain. The outward descent is pleasant and relaxing, but the return journey is more demanding with the uphill climb. Along the way, you'll pass slate cliffs, small ecological ponds, and artificial Cryptomeria japonica and Red Cypress forests, with occasional sightings of Taiwan maples. Finally, a pure Taiwan beech forest stretches along the ridgeline between 500 and 600 meters at the trail's end, offering views of the source valley of the Nan'ao Beixi River and Wangyang Mountain.

Each year, starting in mid-October, the weather on Taiping Mountain gradually cools, and the green leaves gradually turn golden, ushering in the vibrant Taiping Mountain beech season, adding a rich autumn atmosphere and vibrant colors to the lush forest. This largest expanse of pure Taiping Mountain beech forest has become Taiwan's most popular beech trail for autumn hiking. The vibrant green of spring, the vibrant golden glow of autumn, the bleak winter air and the occasional rime of winter—the Taipingshan Beech National Trail in Yilan never ceases to amaze hikers!

The Taipingshan Beech Trail was constructed from an abandoned forest trail. The Taipingshan Beech Forest is located within a former logging area. The red cypress and hinoki cypress trees of Wangyang Mountain have long since been cleared. Due to their twisted and tangled branches, the beech trees were mistakenly considered to be of little value and thus spared from logging. The survival of this largest relict forest of the Ice Age in Taiwan is truly miraculous.

Beech Classroom:

The Taiwan Beech (scientific name: Fagus taiwanensis), commonly known as beech in English, is a deciduous tall tree in the Fagaceae family. It is a relict plant that survived the Ice Age and is endemic to Taiwan.
It is mainly distributed in Zhulu Mountain, Beichatian Mountain, Nanchatian Mountain, Lala Mountain, Ayu Mountain, Tongshan and other places, and likes to grow on windward slopes and ridges.

Travel Notes

Taipingshan Beech Trail One-Day Tour Fee: Adults age 13 and older; children aged 4-12 enjoy a discounted rate. Children under 3 years old do not receive meals, seats, or other activity fees; only insurance and administrative fees are included.

This tour has different meeting and disbanding locations; please note this.

To alleviate traffic congestion at the Yilan Snow Tunnel and comply with the priority bus policy, the return trip will be transported to the Luodong Bus Terminal (estimated to arrive at approximately 6:00 PM). The driver-guide will assist with purchasing return tickets (included in the price) onsite for the return trip to the Taipei City Hall Bus Terminal. This will shorten the travel time by an hour, maintaining a comfortable trip.

Transportation from Taipei to Taipingshan will be arranged by a 9-seater van, a 25-seater minibus, or a 42-seater bus, depending on the number of registered participants. Please refer to the pre-trip notification for details.

Because the beech season on Taipingshan is subject to weather conditions, if the foliage is not as expected, we will still proceed with the original itinerary to visit the scenic spot and enjoy other mountain scenery. Please accept this and re-register.

This tour, based on a dispatched vehicle, requires a minimum of 7, 16, or 35 people to operate. The number of participants will be counted after the registration deadline. If insufficient numbers prevent the tour from proceeding, we will notify you at least 5 days in advance regarding rescheduling, reservation, or refund.

Pre-trip precautions and contact information will be announced separately before departure; please check your member inbox.

This one-day Taipingshan Beech Trail tour may be adjusted based on the number of participants, events, or weather conditions on that day. The company will not announce this separately.

If you are unable to board the bus or disembark midway due to personal reasons, it will be deemed as a forfeit and no refund or re-entry will be offered.

Please meet on time on the day of the tour. No refunds will be given if you are separated from the group or unable to meet up due to personal reasons.

The tour bus is an enclosed space. Please do not bring pets or dangerous items on board. Thank you for your cooperation.

If force majeure such as a typhoon occurs before the departure date, the departure will be postponed and rescheduled upon announcement by the meteorological authorities. If the customer voluntarily withdraws from the tour, a 5% deduction will be made for the tour fee.

Cancellation Clauses

Cancellations made 41 days prior to the start of the trip will incur a 5% handling fee.

Cancellations made 31-40 days prior to the start of the trip will incur a 10% handling fee.

Cancellations made 21-30 days (including the 30th day) prior to the start of the trip will incur a 20% handling fee.

Cancellations made 2-20 days (including the 20th day) prior to the start of the trip will incur a 30% handling fee.

Cancellations made 1 day prior to the start of the trip will incur a 50% handling fee.

Cancellations made 2 days prior to the start of the trip will incur a 50% handling fee.

Cancellations made 2 days prior to the start of the trip will incur a 20% handling fee.

Cancellations made 1 day prior to the start of the trip will incur a 50% handling fee.

Refunds are not available on the start date of the trip.

If the event is affected by force majeure (e.g., typhoon warnings, heavy rain alerts, etc.), the organizer will determine whether to cancel the event. A refund will be issued to the original payment method after deducting necessary expenses.

Requests for rescheduling due to personal reasons will be deemed cancellations and will be handled in accordance with the cancellation policy outlined above.

If participation is terminated during the event due to reasons beyond the organizer's control, no refund will be given.
