Q: When is the typical whale watching season in Hualien?
A: Generally speaking, April to October is the best time for whale watching in Taiwan, especially from mid-May to September. Barring typhoon disruptions, this period is the most stable for sea conditions.

After the Mid-Autumn Festival each year, the northeast monsoon gradually intensifies, making whale watching in Hualien highly dependent on weather conditions. Therefore, whale watching tours are still available from November to March, but trips are only possible when the winter north monsoon subsides.

Q: Will whales and dolphins be seen while whale watching in Hualien?
A: The chance of seeing dolphins is over 90% when sailing from Hualien Harbor. Large whales are mostly migratory and tend to stay offshore (farther from shore). Sometimes they migrate close to the coast to feed or play, providing visitors aboard whale watching boats with a good chance of encountering them.
Common dolphin species seen in Hualien Harbor include spinner dolphins, patterned dolphins, tropical spotted dolphins, Frohner's dolphins, and bottlenose dolphins. Large whales that have been sighted include sperm whales, pilot whales, melon-headed whales, killer whales, and humpback whales.

Travel Notes

Please arrive at the meeting point 40 minutes before your scheduled whale watching flight. Late arrivals will not be accepted.

For participants of the Hualien Doloman Whale Watching Cruise, please meet at the Doloman Cultural Center. After the pre-trip briefing and ecological tour, you will need to drive or take a shuttle bus to Xiangri Square to board the Doloman Whale Watching Cruise.

For those without transportation, you can purchase a Hualien City pickup service (services include hotels, B&Bs, and the train station). After booking, please enter your hotel name and full address in the "Meeting Point" field in your participant profile. The actual pickup time will be notified at least one day prior to departure. You will usually need to wait an hour before departure. Please check your member's email or phone number. Last-minute arrangements for whale watching transfers are not accepted on the day of departure.

Every participant must bring their identification for verification before the Hualien Doloman Whale Watching Cruise departs.

Don't stay up late the day before your Hualien Doloman whale watching trip. Get plenty of sleep. Lack of sleep can easily lead to seasickness.

The Hualien Doloman whale watching boat trip lasts approximately two hours. For those concerned about seasickness, please take seasickness medication 30 minutes before departure and stay relaxed.

Whale and dolphin watching in Hualien is a natural phenomenon beyond our control. While the sighting rate is high, there's no guarantee of seeing whales or dolphins. If you truly don't see any dolphins or whales, Doloman will give each guest a VIP Whale Watching Ticket (named for the boat - open-date only) and invite you to return.

Cancellation Clauses

Cancellations made 4 days prior to the start of the trip will receive a full refund.

Cancellations made 1-3 days (including the 3rd day) prior to the start of the trip will not receive a refund.

Cancellations made on the day of the trip will not receive a refund.

If the event is affected by force majeure (e.g., typhoon warnings, heavy rain alerts, etc.), the organizer will determine whether to cancel the event. A refund will be issued to the original payment method after deducting necessary expenses.

Rescheduling requests due to personal reasons will be deemed cancellations and will be handled in accordance with the cancellation policy outlined above.

If you cancel your participation during the event due to reasons not attributable to the organizer, no refund will be given.

Please proceed to the meeting point for whale watching in Doloman, Hualien (approximately 10-15 minutes from Hualien Train Station) on your own, or you can purchase a round-trip shuttle service from designated locations in Hualien City.
