- Attraction Introduction | Hualien Taroko Secret Zhuilu Historic Trail -
The Hualien Taroko Secret Zhuilu Historic Trail is a remnant of the Hehuan Mountain Crossing Trail. It is approximately 10.3 kilometers long, but only 3.2 kilometers are currently open. This is the return route from the Zhuilu Historic Trail to the Zhuilu Station (entering from the east and exiting from the east). The Hualien Taroko Secret Zhuilu Historic Trail is 800 meters above sea level, with a vertical drop of approximately 600 meters, and is composed almost entirely of marble.
Located in the heart of Sanjiaozui Mountain, the Hualien Taroko Secret Zhuilu Historic Trail is the best-preserved section of the main Hehuan Mountain Crossing Trail.
The Zhuilu Trail in Hualien's Taroko Secret Land was once a crucial route connecting the various Taroko tribes. The original path was only 30 centimeters wide, barely wide enough for two standing feet. In 1917, the Japanese forcibly conscripted indigenous men to widen the trail to 1.5 meters to facilitate passage and transport artillery. The men, tied with ropes around their waists, dangled from the clifftop to dig holes and bury explosives, demonstrating the hardships and dangers of the original excavation. Don't forget to look up and admire the azure sky, cut vertically by the Zhuilu Trail's rock face. It feels as if the sky is within reach.
The sheer drop of the Zhuilu Trail in Hualien, combined with the surging waters of the Liwu River, offers an unobstructed view, allowing you to fully experience the breathtaking majesty of the Zhuilu Cliff, a breathtaking sight in the Taroko Gorge. Due to the terrain, you can observe a variety of temperate plants. Furthermore, you can overlook the Taroko Gorge from a unique vantage point. Hiking the Zhuilu Ancient Trail in Hualien's Taroko Valley is definitely an unforgettable journey.
